Alert CDC is a 501(c)(3) organization that assists in the development of economic opportunities, provide educational resources, and improve the health of the most underserved groups in our community. Now more than ever it’s important that as a community, we do what we can to help ease the financial burdens that families may face as they prepare their children for another school year.
Psychologists state that the first few weeks of the new school year are extremely important to the development of self-esteem and academic success of students. Studies have found a direct correlation between student’s poverty levels and poor academic performance. Statistics states, “Yearly, 56 million children in the United States head back to school, of that number only about 37% are prepared”. In a time when the economic climate has caused financial strain on many in our community, families have a difficult time paying for necessities. Purchasing school supplies is often not the highest priority, medical care is a luxury and often neglected.
For twelve years, ALERT CDC has spearheaded the Back-to-School Bash Family Fun Fest community event, donating over 9,700 backpacks filled with school supplies and hygiene products to the children of the community. This event host over 3,500 children and their parents, as well as the teachers and school officials who are instrumental in the academic success of the children they teach. Families enjoy an afternoon filled with free food, haircuts, games, and activities. Since the family is the support system for the children, there are also vendors and educators who provide medical screenings, exams, and medical information, as well as other vendors whose goal is to provide services and support to the low-income community.
ALERT CDC, in partnership with other community organizations, bridge the academic gap by ensuring all students have the tools they need to succeed. Individuals, organizations and companies can partner with ALERT CDC through sponsorships and donations that will positively impact the lives of underprivileged children.
